The 8266 is a great chip, with a lot of support of arduino code. You can do a lot with this chip and it costs almost nothing. However, it is now being replaced with the ESP32, which is even more powerfull and has some great extra features. Also, pay attention that the Wemos chip only has 1 analoge input. So to add for example multiple analogue sensors, you need an additional multiplexer!
