stabgod Never use a wet sponge. It will cause accelerated tip oxidation especially at higher temperatures. Don't even think of using a sponge with lead-free solder. In my experience, wire mesh cleaners (especially ones made of brass) are much better for the life of your tips.

stabgod UPDATE: I completed all my projects with this iron. Very impressive! However, the original tip started to corrode at high temperatures when salvaging components from manufactured boards. I replaced the tip easily and continued with the salvage work. So far, almost four entire boards have been stripped of through-hole and SMD components. I've also noted that the handle gets quite hot around the edge after about 15 minutes of usage. Just have to hold it a but further up during long sessions.
