tustudent People really do not know what they are talking about... The vertical resolution is FIXED according to analog TV standards, while the horizontal resolution is CAPPED by the signal bandwidth (and in case of signal sources with pixels, like CCD/CMOS cameras by the horizontal amount of pixels). For NTSC (EIA) this is: 483 visible lines, for PAL (CCIR) this is: 576 visible lines. Most equipment will capture NTSC with 480 lines, making it compatible with "640x480" VGA.
