Alligator clips do not transfer current as efficiently as connectors. The larger the current the more of an issue. I just don't trust alligator clips on small wires. There is also a greater chance ...

Many thanks for the info. Presumably a jst bec female to banana plug look correct. Why would you not use alligator clips?
