It took my 8-yr old daughter and I an hour to put together - the board is printed clearly enough for her to work out, with a tiny bit of internet seaching. Great fun, and excellent value for money.

This kit came with sufficient documentation to build it easily. Instructions are in Chinese but all you really need are the schematic and parts list. D3, D7, D9 = red LEDs D2, D5, D8 = yellow LEDs D1, D4, D7, D10 = green LEDs (I had some fun figuring this out, go to Google translate: English to Mandarin, enter "red" and match up the characters displayed to the parts list, etc. etc.) The - (minus) side of the microphone is connected to the case. C2 charges through R3 and is discharged when any sound picked up by the microphone is amplified by Q1, causing the transistor to conduct and dropping voltage on the clock (pin 14) of U1, pulsing the counter. Nice visual effect. Worked immediately. No issues.

Bought this after reading the other reviews as they say at least that it is useful for soldering practice and I wanted that. Took me a couple of hours as I hadn't soldered anything in 30 years, Worked first go aft'er I finished it! Well impressed. It doesn't do much but flash when you talk. From the colours of the LED's I thought it might be a sound level meter VU meter style displat, but the lights just cyle with any sound, faster with louder sounds, but its still fun.One thing I wasn't so impressed withwas that the electret microphone had no pins or wires attatched so I had to put pins onto the base, but got it done eventually . My advice to anyone making it is to make sure the microphone pins got through the holes before final soldering on.or you'll be adjusting a few times like me. Overall very good though.
