This kit is really not for beginners having surface mount devices for all resistive components. That said, it is a very impressive little machine. Operating from 8-12V DC, the unit develops +5V, -5V, and 3.3V internal supplies using a switching regulator for the IC regulated -5V supply. The front end uses a quad CMOS op amp to provide the input attenuator and DC restore for the uP that handles only positive voltages. As a result, there is a +1.6V offset to the input signal going to the uP. This needs to be taken into account when looking at the resulting display. The time base allows for very long acquisition periods, many seconds, if you are looking for very slow moving waveforms. The color display is excellent. Caveat: this is not a high frequency scope having 200kHz as a maximum spec'd input frequency. It would be nice if there was a case to put it into.

i just ordered it. I like such kits. i was searching in the last time for a cheap tester for waveforms of signal forms, to put in the pocket and to take it if there is something strange behavior of sund signals or TTL signals of RC PWM and so on. You take not the large oszi with you every time and mor time something happens if you don't have anything with you. Ths small part is simethng for the toolkit...

I am 72 yr old and have done some soldering before. I assembled this kit according the enclosed instructions. Found no problems at all. All components are included and from every value of the SMD resistors there was one extra. Alfter finishing the kit, it works directly. No problems. Now i am able to help my grandson with a defective drone. Reommended for the electronic hobbyist

I'm very pleased with this 'scope. It took me around two hours to assemble, I had no problem locating pin 1 of the quad op-amp as I'm used to this type of device. If you look closely, pin 1 is denoted by a (slight) chamfer on the top edge of the op-amp. The bottom edge of the op-amp has no such chamfer. Worked straight away, and works extremely well given the very low price. The trace can be slightly glitchy due to some internal interference which seems to be around the time the 'Trigger' LED is illuminated but that is a minor issue on an otherwise fabulous unit. I particularly like the readout that gives the RMS, Pk-Pk Volts, Frequency, Period and Duty of the waveform. The Frequency only seems to be displayed on AC coupled waveforms so if you can't see it, try AC coupling.

Finished it in 2-3 hours, a good soldering iron and flux are highly recommended. If you're new to SMD soldering, maybe it would be a good idea buy also http://www.banggood.com/DIY-Electronic-SMD-Components-Solder-Practice-Plate-Kit-For-Training-p-926728.html to get some pracice, or another of the easier/cheaper kits with SMD components also here in BG. Anyway, there are lots of resources in the web and youtube videos to help in this way. Works like a charm and has the lastest firmware installed (according to manufacturer's website http://www.jyetech.com/Products/LcdScope/Firmwares_138.php), which includes calculation of several magnitudes: Freq, Cycle, PW(pulse width), Duty (cycle), Vmax, Vmin, Vavr, Vpp, Vrms. Long pressing OK button shows/hides these values. Highly recommended to all electronic enthusiasts wishing to build by themselves this kind of instrument, or who need a cheap/portable oscilloscope given the bandwidth is enough for the intended application. To make it fully portable, one of the boost converters available here at BG (http://www.banggood.com/XL6009-Step-Up-Boost-Voltage-Power-Supply-Module-Converter-Regulator-p-916222.html), together with a LiPo battery could be a good addition (at 120 mA rated consumption a 9V battery wouldn't last much). The only con I've found is that the trace appears to be a bit noisy, I have to investigate if all the solders around the analog part are correct and/or add some extra decoupling capacitors. I will post some photos as a complement to the review

The PCB is good quality and a working oscilloscope can be built within a day. The only issue I had with the build was R6 missing (1/8W leaded), but this was a minor issue as I had a suitable resistor available. The SM resistors usefully come with spares, as it is easy to loose one on the 0805 sized parts. The specification states 200kHz, this is about the upper limit for displaying a sine wave. Higher frequency signals are aliased (to look like lower frequency signals) with reducing amplitude as frequency increases. Aliasing is a facet of digital sampling if frequencies at or above the sampling rate are allowed in. Aliasing can also occur at lower frequencies when using a slow time-base. When viewing an unknown waveform it is better to start with a quick time-base speed, then slowing down to display a few cycles. The wave shape is reasonable up to about 20KHz. As you approach 100kHz any wave shape displays sinusoidal. Overall this is a neat little kit that provides a usable tool.

This is a nice kit to build. I took my time and everything worked the first time. Adjustments as described are easy. Nice oscilloscope for the beginner. Firmware is the only issue, but does not make it not work. Mine is 1 month old and firmware 45. The manufacturer has made firmware 36 and 40 available for updates, and there are instructions for the update for older models to the 40(remember mine is already 45) are available along with a video that was done by the person that translated the instructions for the update. Models from 46 to 49 are available along with the new/low noise version 50. You will receive the model they pull from the bin without a choice from you. The version 50 is the best as of now with low noise, but as of now the firmware to update older versions to the new 50 version will not be made available by the manufacturer, due to copies of the older versions being made and sold by others. All an all, this is a nice project for a person that wants an oscilloscope for cheap and wants to put together a well documented kit. I am a long time electronics beginner and enjoyed the time I spent putting this together, and the feeling of accomplishment with seeing something I built work and help me with further electronic discoveries! Buy one and enjoy.

PCB is of fine quality. Other parts too except maybe the tunable caps. I've had trouble with others that look exactly like these and require a strange tool to adjust. Easy enough to replace if they are a problem. Be warned you have install very small surface mount resistors and a few ics. You can not use a regular iron for these parts. Banggood does/did sell a 20 Euro smd solder station. I have one and hope this will do the job. I've installed everything but the surface mount devices so far. Might post again when it's working.
