What can I say, it does what it says, provides power. It only acts as a UPS is powered by the input from the hat itself, the LEDs give an indication of the battery charge. It is also capable of giving a reading of the charge state over i2c so can be remotely polled as ell. Handy item, use as UPS or battery power supply. I have ordered a second unit as I am that impressed. Only improvement I would like is a version that uses 18650 batteries.

It's plug and play out of the box. However, once rpi shutsdown, this will still be active until you manually by pressing a button switch it off. You can program your pi such that it shows battery level and low battery warning. It's still pretty handy though as it makes the project portable.

Works perfect with my Raspberry Pi 3 ^ PIFI DAC+ 2.0. Supplied battery fits perfect. You can charge it before installing UPS Hat. Checkout wiki page: raspberrypiwiki.com/index.php/Raspi_UPS_HAT_Board. UPS switch is for turn on/off battery power to RPi. Connect charge cable to UPS & press switch on to power your RPi.

Great UPS. You can have Rapberry on and charge the battery at the same time. It switches to battery automatically when unplug AC power. It powers on by button, not switch. One short press and you get battery level through 4 white bright leds, one second press and it powers on the Rasp. Cascade design allows to get 5V power through GPIO directly from UPS, great for saves space. I already buy another one for future project.

this is great, it lets me run the PI3 without the risk of corrupting the micro sdcard in case of power failure. It works like a charm, switches automatically between AC power and battery, without interruption to the PI3. I think I'll have to get another one for my other PI. Recommended!

I got the board and the battery in one box but as two parts. The board and the battery seem to be be of good quality. Plugging together is easy. The board is installed on top of the raspi. A reset button on the board allows to reset the raspi. This works fine. I no tested the python scripts yet. I got problems with the form factor. I had expected that the board fits in the standard raspi box and just the battery looks out of the window on the top of the box. But that is not true. -- I had to cut out some parts of the box cover (bigger window on top, reducing the latches of to hold the top, extra openings for the reset button and the new power supply plug). The photo shows the raspi with closed box in my installation. You see that the top fits but I had to fix the battery with some tape and to cover the extension pins with a folded cardboard.

The application I had in mind was using the Raspberry Pi as a small server, that should run permanently without supervision. Unfortunately, this UPS is not really suitable for this. One of the reasons is that, when the external power is lost and comes back, the UPS will *not* automatically resume charging the battery. So each subsequent blackout will leave the battery further discharged, and ultimately the UPS will stop doing its work. You *can* get the UPS to charge the battery again by pressing the button, but doing this also removes power from the Raspberry Pi, so it has to be shut down before doing this and needs to restart after. Because the UPS doesn't resume charging automatically after the external power comes back, I'm taking off one star on "Value for Price". However, it really depends on your use case. You may find the Value for Price of this product to be excellent if you use it in, for example, the following scenarios: * Using the Raspberry Pi as a small desktop computer, shutting it down when you're done working with it. In this case, the UPS will protect against unexpected loss of power. It enables shutting down the Raspberry Pi in an orderly fashion, so you don't lose your work, and the risk on SD card corruption will be greatly reduced. * Running the Raspberry Pi on battery power, for hours at a time, after fully charging the battery.
