These look to be genuine flying models. I hung one on a wall to show it off. I will give some away. If I ever figure out a place and time where fire hazard is not an issue I will certainly fly one. Each is a light paper balloon with a thin wire hoop at the bottom and cross wires to hold a wax thing, similar to a very small barbecue charcoal starter.

I have ordered 4 sets of 5 lanterns the last few months. In general, they work very well. Just attach the solid fuel to the steel wires and ingnite. Make sure the lanterns are expanded, so the fire will not burn holes in the paper. After a few minutes, the lanterns will rise silently to the sky. Unfortunately, some of the lanterns have too much glue on them. This causes the paper to stick together, making it impossible to be used. Igniting would result in a burning lantern, as the paper does not expand. From every pack of 5 items I ordered, at least one of them failed due to excess of glue.
