I am not sharpener expert. But the stones arrived in good shape. I tested them already and I fell the 400. I am missing a diamond stone. To make the stone flat. eEcause I am so bad in sharpening. I think this get you started, and the 1000 grid should be enough to get sharp. I tested on a kitchen knife and on a Viktorinox style. I think it gets you starting on stone sharpening.
