This is not a 12V UPS device! The 5V silkscreen PCB label on the charge input got me suspicious. So I used my lab power supply to verify the setup. If input voltage is 5V everthing works as expected, charging with aprox 500 mA. If input voltage is >7V input current jumps to >1.5A which is mostly disipated as heat on the second big diode. At 12V input (with current limitation at 1.5A) you can almost immediately smell something is wrong. The boost part seems to work ok, as the charging part if supply voltage is 5 V. Do not use this device in a 12V circuit.

  • MaiMariarti The description should've been more clear. It takes input from a 5V supply, and charges a Li battery. It then boosts the Li battery voltage to 12V. A more appropriate headline would've been " 5V to 12V boost convert UPS using a single 18650 Battery".
