Obviously this is a cheap ukulele. That said I find that it is more playable than similar priced ukes from the local music shop. Without spending anytime setting it up, outside of tuning, my first impressions were very positive. The intonation at each fret is very good. The volume is outstanding, and far better than I expected. The strings have a bright sound like Aquila Nylgut, but it doesn't say what they are for sure. The frets are all seated flush to the fingerboard, and the ends are beveled
with no sharp edges to catch your hand as you slide.
After playing around with it a little I decided to do a bit more setup. The action was very high. I cut the nut slots a little over 1mm deeper, and took the brdge saddle down 3mm's. I will probably knock a bit more off of the bridge saddle since the action is still a little high, but it is playing well now. As I was adjusting the action I discovered that the nut and saddle are bone. I also swapped the fourth string for a low G to get a little more depth in the sound.
The finish is rough, and somewhat heavy. The wood is beautiful. The top and back are bookmatched, and it has an arched back. The fingerboard is bound with black plastic.
Bone nut and saddle
Bright sounding strings
Smooth tuners that hold tuning well
Finish is a little sloppy
As a travel instrument it fits the job nicely, and with a little extra setup it plays very well. For a first ukulele you could do much worse, even for more money.

I liked how the wood finish was. It was very professional despite a low price. I was skeptical at first but now I see how good these are. Will buy again. Good product.
